Good day to all and happy new semester. As we turn the page to a new semester that will be filled with new challenges and accomplishments, let us look back and reflect on our decisions and performance of the last four and a half months. We are going to start off today by completing a quick reflection about our performance in Earth Science. Please use the below link to do so. Per 4 Refection Per 6 Reflection Per 8 Reflection
After discussing the reflection we will review the Chapter 3 test by passing out the identification portion of the test and going over the questions as a group.
Quick check and review of folder organization and documentation.
And the first thing we will begin in the new semester is to introduce the topic of volcanoes and earthquakes.
Please download 4.1 Earthquakes.key and 4.1 Earthquakes and Plates.pages for your folder. After you have done so, take fifteen minutes to read through and complete the notes for that section. After the notes we will be starting a poster on the key terms to help us understand earthquakes.
For your poster, use a large format template from Pages. Imaging you are making a poster for a concert where three different bands are playing. You need to highlight each and make it attractive so people want to attend. Your poster needs to a general overview of the show (earthquakes) and include key information explaining each band that is performing. The bands are:
-The Elastic Rebound Theory
-Epicenter
-Focus
Use this template to help you get started. Earthquakes Overview Poster.pages You may edit it in any way you feel fit with new text boxes, fonts, or images holders.
Please use as many bold and clear images/graphics as possible in describing the information. Remember, posters are supposed to be eye candy.
Wednesday
Hello to all!!! We have another big day in Earth Science today. We are going to do several things in class today, all of which will increase our knowledge of earthquakes. Let us first start off by brainstorming and volunteering for tomorrow's Student Showcase.
Up next, I want everyone to finish up their Earthquake Concert Posters so we can show them off tomorrow night. Let's take ten minutes to go ahead and finish those posters up.
Today we are going to focus on reading earthquakes and seismic waves. I want you to develop a new appreciation for earthquakes since we are rather close to an active fault zone. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a NOVA video about earthquakes. There is a short questionairre you need to fill out as you watch the video.
Our next project is going to be interactive flash cards for the key terms about earthquakes. You will use the Keynote template to help you be successful on your project. Earthquake Flashcards.key.
